Labelling tubes

Semi-automatic labelling of small series of tubes

For smaller and start-up businesses that don't have access to large production lines or automatic tube filling equipment, packaging and labelling are often two of the most common challenges.

If you need to label a small batch of plastic or laminate tubes, the ALmatic semi-automatic wrap-around labeller (Kit C) would be perfect for you. You can quickly and easily label small batches of tubes with the ALmatic. An operator simply places the tubes on the mandrel and a hand movement triggers the labelling process. The labelled tube is then removed from the mandrel. The tube can then be filled and sealed.

The mandrel can be replaced by a roller, and afterwards cylindrical bottles and vials can also be labelled on the ALmatic (Kit C).

  • Label width: up to 100 mm (S) or up to 200 mm (M)

Labels for tubes:
In many ways, labels for plastic tubes must meet the same requirements as labels for laminate tubes and rigid containers. They must be able to withstand the product contents and environmental influences such as moisture, and use an adhesive suitable for the container material. Everything you would consider when choosing a label backing for any other type of container, you would also consider for a solid closure tube. However, there are some additional aspects that only need to be considered for labels for solid tubes.

Choice of adhesive:
The first thing to consider is that full-size labels need to be flexible, i.e. they need to be able to conform. Polyethylene films are usually the films of choice, although some polypropylene films are also suitable for the job. Vinyl films can also be used, but are only chosen for cost reasons when a unique visual feature is desired that cannot be achieved in any other way.

Label design and placement:
Secondly, proper label design is critical. The label template should be positioned so that the label comes at least 6 mm around the beaded edge of the tube. In addition, the label width should allow for at least 6 mm of overlap. Following these guidelines will reduce pressure on the flanging edge of the film to prevent snapping back and lifting.
